Prof. Kai Langenbach appointed to the BCI department

© BCI/TU Dortmund University

Prof. Kai Langenbach received his certificate of appointment to the Chair of Fluid Process Engineering today from the Rector, Prof. Manfred Bayer, in the presence of the Vice Dean of Budget and Structure, Prof. Dieter Vogt. A warm welcome to the BCI department and good luck with your teaching and research!

After studying physical engineering at the TU Berlin, Prof. Langenbach received his doctorate there with the topic "Development of an Equation of State Incorporating Molecular Architecture". He then worked as a PostDoc at the Chair of Thermodynamics at TU Kaiserslautern and subsequently held the Junior Professorship of Interfacial Thermodynamics at TU Kaiserslautern from 2017 - 2020. Since August 2020, he has been a university professor for thermal process engineering at the University of Innsbruck and is now moving to BCI on September 1, 2024. In his research, Prof. Langenbach pursues the approach of understanding the objects of research across many scales from the molecule to the plant and thus shedding light on how surfaces in apparatuses, for example, can be used to cause effects in the surrounding fluid phases. Other focal points are the experimental and theoretical description of heterogeneous media (e.g. foams) and the special thermophysical behavior that occurs there.

An interview with Prof. Langenbach can be found in the Alumni Newsletter.
