Prof. Alba Diéguez Alonso appointed to the Faculty of BCI
After studying engineering at the University of Vigo (Spain), Prof. Diéguez Alonso completed her doctorate at the Faculty III Process Sciences at the Technical University of Berlin, where she subsequently worked as a postdoc. For the past three years, she has been a junior professor at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, where she has been working experimentally and numerically on the thermochemical conversion of biomass and plastics for the production of chemicals and materials, including the use of non-conventional heating technologies in the context of process electrification. The focus of her work at BCI is on the further development and optimization of flexible thermochemical and thermocatalytic conversion processes for the conversion of biomass and waste into chemicals and energy, which contribute to the circular economy and the environmentally friendly energy transition, especially for the chemical industry. To this end, highly accurate multiscale models for describing and predicting the multiphase conversion of these materials are combined with advanced experimental approaches for process characterization, with laser spectroscopic methods playing a crucial role.
