Dr. Ali Mansuri Torshizi awarded this year's TU Dortmund University dissertation prize

Dr.-Ing. Ali Mansuri Torshizi was awarded the TU Dortmund University Dissertation Prize at today's Academic Anniversary Celebration.

The department would like to congratulate Dr.-Ing. Ali Mansuri Torshizi on receiving the dissertation prize.

In his award-winning doctoral thesis, he developed an innovative concept to combat malaria, a disease that affects around 250 million people every year. His approach is based on insecticide-impregnated bed nets that not only offer mechanical protection, but also kill mosquitoes on contact, thus removing them from the infection chain in the long term. The insecticide is stored in the fibers by a novel retard mechanism and released in a controlled manner via diffusion processes - a concept that he scientifically substantiated with the help of experiments and simulations.

Although the work is strongly application-oriented, Dr. Mansuri pursued a basic scientific approach and combined various experimental methods and modeling strategies. This enabled him to provide a detailed description of the diffusion behavior of small molecules in polymers - findings that are also relevant for other branches of industry such as food and plastics technology.

Dr.-Ing. Ali Mansuri's dissertation is characterized by high scientific quality, interdisciplinarity and social relevance. With six publications in renowned journals, his work has already been widely recognized in the scientific community.
