BCI research group receives Humboldt Sustainability Award

The research group is part of the Transport Processes professorship of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alba Diéguez Alonso and, in cooperation with the Apparatus Design professorship of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Norbert Kockmann, is developing innovative heat exchangers that are used, among other things, to save energy when showering.
In a two-stage application process in which a maximum of three projects could enter the race for each of the 16 universities in the state of NRW, a high-caliber jury from science and practice ultimately selected three projects from 28 submissions. The project on energy saving in showers, on which Dr.-Ing. Michael-David Fischer, Simon Baier, Laura Jakobsen-Urwald, Luis Ohm, Andre Grütering and Solvejg Höller are working, was awarded the prize for the science-based solution that promises success for research and consumers.
In 2021, the 16 universities in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia joined forces with the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy to form the Humboldtⁿ Initiative to actively promote the topic of sustainability at universities. Since 2023, the Humboldtⁿ Award has been presented every two years to raise the profile of sustainable research. At the Future Conference at the University of Duisburg Essen, selected representatives from universities, universities of applied sciences and non-university research institutions from NRW came together with people from state politics to engage in a future-oriented dialog.
