BCI Brewing Group presents their beers
On 10.10.24, the groups of this year's Brau AG (Brewing Group) presented their self-created beers to the members of the department. These were brewed by the participants according to recipes they developed themselves.
Once again this year, the beers presented all had a very different character: Max Schlickewei, Maik Lehmkühler, Janik Ahlmann and Philipp Ronnewinkel chose an American Pale Ale called "Wild Westpark". Paula Berg, Roberto Joe, Haritha Harikumar and Kongara Manjunath presented an English Brown, which they named "Hedgelayer", and Isabel Keller, Thomas Hermann, Moritz Westerheide and Nils Heunemann competed with their Weizenbock IPA "Hopf 'N' Bock". After a presentation and subsequent tasting, all the beers presented were evaluated by those present in terms of taste, idea and presentation. The American Pale Ale "Wild Westpark" came out on top and was chosen as the winning beer. This beer will now be brewed in a larger batch and Brau AG will take part in the international university brewing competition at the TU Hamburg-Harburg with this beer next year.
In addition to the beers in the competition, the "Büffelbier - null komma nix" was presented for the first time as an alcohol-free beer (alcohol content < 0.5% by volume), which was fermented with the Saccharomycodes ludwigii yeast. This special yeast produces very little alcohol as it can only ferment a small proportion of the sugar contained in the wort.
Last year's Brau-AG also reported on their participation in this year's international brewing competition in Hamburg, where they competed with their Märzen beer "Horter". Of course, there was also a taste of the "Horter".
