The four best students of the year at TU Dortmund University have been awarded the Hans Uhde Prize. Colin Johnson from the BCI faculty received the prize. Congratulations!

The certificate and a gold coin were presented by Guido Baranowski, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hans Uhde Foundation.

In the presence of the Rector of TU Dortmund University, Prof. Manfred Bayer, the Chairman of the Society of Friends of TU Dortmund congratulated the award winners on their outstanding achievements during their studies.

Colin Johnson received the award for his outstanding thesis "State Estimation for Neural Network System Models with Bayesian Last Layer". In this thesis, Johnson investigates the use of probabilistic data-based models for state estimation to successfully control a process. The prerequisite for this is knowledge of all the states of the system. In practice, however, often only some of the necessary states can be determined by measurements. Therefore, a state estimation, i.e. the calculation of the missing states from the existing measurements, is carried out first. In this paper, a methodology for the development of data-based models is presented, which allows a fast evaluation and provides uncertainty information of the predictions.
