Hans Uhde Prize honors Reghuram Venugopal's outstanding academic achievements

Venugopal completed his Master's thesis entitled "Uncertainty Quantification of Surrogate Models for Robust Model Predictive Control" at the Chair of Process Automation Systems under the supervision of Prof. Sergio Lucia and Felix Brabender, M.Sc. Venugopal's thesis deals with model predictive control (MPC), a powerful, optimization-based control strategy that is used in various branches of industry such as chemical process engineering and modern manufacturing. By using Conformalized Quantile Regression (CQR) - a state-of-the-art statistical method - it achieves a significant performance improvement over existing models.
The award was presented at a ceremony at Uhde on 08.05.2025. There, start-up founder Maximilian Spiekermann also reported on the project "Simplyfined - Transfer of excellent research for a sustainable chemical industry", which also emerged from the BCI.
In the process presented, vegetable oils are optimized into a bio-based platform chemical. A way to provide sustainable products.
