We are pleased to welcome Prof. Elsa Sanchez Garcia as the new chair of the BCI faculty.

Prof. Sanchez Garcia takes up her duties as of today and heads the Computational Bioengineering Chair. After studying and earning a PhD in chemistry, she conducted research at the Max Planck Institute and held the professorship of Computational Biochemistry at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2017. Prof. Sanchez Garcia is interested in the regulation of enzymatic activity, advanced computational methods for designing new drugs, and other challenging projects in the broad area of biomolecule modeling. To this end, she is also developing novel methods and tools for computational engineering of chemical and biological systems. A particular focus of her research is the design of new drugs and the control of chemical and biochemical reactivity.
