Successful day of teach'n tech "Shaping teaching together".
Under the motto "Shaping Teaching Together", students and faculty entered into direct exchange on current topics in the area of teaching and studying.
In his introductory remarks, Dean Stephan Lütz emphasized the importance of communication between students and teachers. Challenges in teaching and studying can only be overcome together.
In his keynote speech "Höm(m)a, but that works better!", Dr. Martin Scheer, Managing Director of the Faculty of Mathematics and Head of the Department of Advanced Mathematics (BCI/BW/MB) confirmed this. The lecturer, who was honored with the TU Dortmund Teaching Award in 2020, used the example of his courses to demonstrate how to respond to specific challenges in a course. In doing so, he provided food for thought on contemporary teaching - always entertaining and sometimes with a wink at the common prejudices of teachers and students that still occur.
In a total of five workshops, various topics in teaching and studying were discussed constructively. Valuable ideas emerged, for example, on educational goals and content, on the design of internships, on internationalization, or on improving communication. The faculty will thoroughly evaluate the results of the workshops in the coming weeks and then use the momentum of this successful day to set about implementing them.
During the breaks, the posters on the results of the student survey, with which a thorough survey of the study situation at the faculty succeeded in June 2023, met with much interest.
The extensive data on the financial situation, study behavior and motivation to study will be incorporated into decisions on the further development of studies and teaching, as Dean of Studies Markus Nett pointed out in his closing remarks.
For the first time, the event also honored the top 5% of BCI students in all degree programs with a certificate of inclusion in the Dean's List, which will be compiled each semester in the future.
