BCI faculty took advantage of the lockdown to refurbish all of their open-access PC pools.

All pools are now equipped with new desks and ergonomic office chairs. The largest PC pool has also received new flooring and paint, as well as window film to reduce solar gain. All pools have been equipped with new computers and monitors. Due to BCI's sustainability efforts, equipment with greatly reduced energy consumption was purchased.

Due to Corona, only a small group of people met today in PC Pool 3 to complete the work. In the presence of the student council, Dean Prof. Lütz thanked all faculty and Dec. 6 offices involved in the work, expressing the hope that the PC pools will soon be reopened for use by BCI students.
The independent junior research group Renewlysis (Renewables and Catalysis) will work on the project "Value-added oriented development of chemocatalytic upgrading reactions of oleochemicals" from January 2021 for an initial period of three years. Innovative technological approaches for the manufacture of products from renewable raw materials will be researched. The aim is to shift the focus of the chemical industry from mineral oil to renewable raw materials and thus to increased sustainability. The project is being funded with EUR 1.1 million.
