Within the framework of DOLCE (Dortmund Life Science Center), Prof. Toni Goßmann has been appointed head of the Computational Systems Biology group. A warm welcome!

After studying bioinformatics, Prof. Goßmann completed his PhD at the University of Sussex and continued his research as a postdoc. After a move to Bielefeld University, he served there as Professor of Evolutionary Genetics. Prof. Goßmann's research interests focus on the analysis of high-throughput molecular sequence data to answer important questions in biomedicine, molecular biology and ecology. The main goal is to integrate evolutionary thinking into the analysis of complex biological systems. One research focus is on epigenetic changes, i.e. reversible changes in the genetic material. These are unique to each individual and change continuously throughout life, e.g. due to environmental influences. Using wild bird DNA, Prof. Goßmann's research group is investigating the interaction of genetic and epigenetic changes and what role these play in evolution in the long term.
